Abstract

Purpose: The goal of this paper is to examine, in a nationally representative sample, intimate partner violence perpetration and victimization among sexual minorities, and how this relationship varies between males and females. Method: Data were a subset of 13,945 respondents from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health. Initial analyses included bivariate calculations of physical, injury, threatened, and forced sex dating violence victimization/perpetration and self-identified sexual orientation by biological sex. In the forthcoming paper, logistic regression models will determine associations between dating violence and sexual orientation by sex, controlling for relevant factors. Results: Proportions of dating violence are higher in the mostly heterosexual, bisexual, mostly homosexual for both males and females. Particularly, bisexual groups have some of the highest proportions of dating violence. Discussion: These findings show the importance of analyzing categories of sexual minorities in order to capture the heterogeneity of experiences among members of this population.
