Applying for a Restricted-Use Contract

How to Apply

New Contract Applications

Visit the Add Health Data Portal and log in using the Login link in the upper right. Then scroll down and click the blue New Application button.

Select the contract type under Select access platform and fill in your contact information. If you are applying on behalf of the individual who will serve as the contract’s Principal Investigator, check the box at the bottom of the page and then fill in the PI’s personal information.

Click Submit to submit your application request. Upon approval, the PI and applicant (if not the same) will receive a confirmation email with instructions for proceeding.

Renewing from a Legacy Contract

Legacy contracts are older contracts where the data are stored somewhere other than the SRW, and which are not associated with a Data Hosting Agreement.

Researchers who have one of these Legacy contracts, either active or expired, may renew their contract to one of those two options. Only the PI of that contract may renew a Legacy contract.

Visit the Add Health Data Portal and log in using the Login link in the upper right. Be sure to use the same email address you previously used to log in to the Data Portal, otherwise the system will not be able to link you to your current contract.

Next, scroll down and click the blue Renew Contract button. The system will identify your current contract and take you to the renewal page.

Select the contract type under Select access platform and fill in your contact information.

Click Submit to submit your application request. Upon approval, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions for proceeding.

Researchers operating under legacy contracts that permit local storage of Add Health restricted-use data, including on physical media, must attest to the destruction of all such data before the renewal process can be completed. Local storage includes hard drives, stand-alone computers, file servers, and remote computing servers.

Renewing an SRW or Home Institution Contract

Visit the Add Health Data Portal and log in using the Login link in the upper right. Then scroll down and click the blue Renew Contract button. Be sure to use the same email address associated with your contract.

Select the contract type under Select access platform and fill in your contact information. Only choose a different contract type if you wish to change.

Click Submit to submit your application request. Upon approval, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions for proceeding.
